Three main education models are available for children with special needs: Segregated Education, Integrated Education, and Inclusive Education. The Segregation model (Ekikaran) involves segregating children with special needs from neurotypical children in different schools. This practice can also lead to social segregation in other areas of life.

SSSVV-IEP aims to empower teachers to cater to the educational needs of all children by adopting the Universal Design of Learning approach. The project aims to deliver content and engage children considering various learning styles and multiple intelligences with a multi-sensory learning approach. Further, this project aims to create an inclusive ecosystem within the school and society.

The basic premise of this approach is:

❑ All children can learn.
❑ All children have the right to be educated in regular classrooms in a manner best suited to their learning needs.
❑ All children have the right to access all the facilities. Enabling facilities are provided to those who may have challenges.
❑ All children can become contributing members of the society.
❑ Children who learn together learn to live together.

Last but not least, this project provides an opportunity to sculpt a world that celebrates differences, appreciates uniqueness and empowers children with special needs to achieve their inherent potential.

Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vahini Inclusive Education Project (SSSVV-IEP) – Project Objectives

Engage, Empower and Enthuse all the stakeholders within the education system to provide equitable education to all children, irrespective of their disabilities.

Digitally deliver the content to the teacher based on the UDL approach and consider the different learning styles and multiple intelligences. Make CWSN’s participation in the school meaningful.

Help children with special needs become functionally independent to the extent their disability allows.

Assist and empower CWSN to become contributing members of the society. Removing ‘dis’ from ‘disability’.

To help neurotypical children understand that people may look different yet can be their friends. Help instil in CWSN a sense of belonging and being valued.

Extend the Inclusion beyond the boundaries of the school. Endeavour to make public facilities ‘inclusive’ and sensitive to the needs of persons with disabilities.

“Learning to earn a living is only half the job. The other half is to make life worthwhile and meaningful.” – Sri Sathya Sai Baba
